Steve has been around the Skokie Skatium for his entire life, starting as a player for the Flyers and serving as Hockey Director for the Skokie Park District for over 21 years. He is the leader of all of hockey played in the Skatium -- travel, house, adult and learn-to-play programs.
Steve has coached all levels of hockey. His highest level was in Canadian Junior where he was an Assistant Coach with the Plattsburgh Pioneers in the QMJHL. His longest tenure was as Head Coach at Loyola Academy High School for ten seasons and although he has coached other teams with multiple first place league finishes and two State Championships, his most recent coaching accomplishment was winning the Gold Medal as Head Coach for Team USA at the 19th Maccabi International Games in 2013.
Steve has worked with the USA Hockey Development Program Select Camps as an instructor and evaluator and also has been Director of the Can/Am Hockey Camps for twelve years. His playing background goes back as being the first goaltender selected by the then expansion Dubuque Fighting Saints of the USHL in 1980. He wound up playing at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and then in 1987 he was signed to a pre-season contract with the Milwaukee Admirals, then a member of the IHL and the minor league affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks. In the interim he left UWRF and returned back to the Chicago area to complete his business degree at the National College of Education.
Steve is a USA Hockey Level 5 Coach and a proud original associate member of the Chicago Blackhawks Alumni Association. In 2008 Steve was inducted into the Illinois Hockey Hall of Fame.
Steve currently serves as a Midwest Scout with International Scouting Services, a hockey scouting company which finds and ranks prospects in preparation for the NHL Draft, as well as collegiate and junior hockey recruiting opportunities for players.

His goal is to optimize and impact each individual player and push them out of their comfort zone to improve. Those lucky enough to make Coach Dave’s team will need to understand that he runs his teams with rules and strict organization.
